A quickly emergency technology
is VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol.
VoIP uses a combination of computers,
telephones, hardware, and software to
allow you to place telephone calls using
your internet connection. VoIP allows
you to place telephone calls over the
internet, rather than traditional telephone lines.
The connection between VoIP and 9-1-1 is limited and inconsistent. Different services and
methods treat VoIP/9-1-1 calls differently, and your location information may not be displayed
on the dispatchers computer screen.
If you use VoIP for your telephone service, it is vital that you make yourself familiar with the
procedures you need to implement to reach 9-1-1 in an emergency. Click on the link at the
right to find out more about VoIP and 911.
